Iván Casís Jr.

Iván Casis Jr. is a multidisciplinary artist and architect, born in Panama and based in Argentina since 2017.

His practice develops along two lines of work. One focuses on the exploration of expression through form, using simple geometries, modulation, repetition and transformation to create intricate compositions. The result of this process is often a series of wall pieces and installations produced through digital fabrication techniques such as CNC and laser cutting and engraving, where volume, light and shadow become part of the work.

The other is rooted in drawing and combines elements of surrealism and technical drawing with architecture, mechanical structures and references to popular culture. These often highly detailed compositions can contain cryptic narratives, imaginary systems and machines that appear complex and functional but ultimately serve no practical purpose. This exploration extends into the creation of frame-by-frame looped animations based on these drawings, as well as his attempts to bring them into the physical world through augmented reality, which he has been experimenting with for almost a decade.

His influences come from architecture, popular and digital culture, technology and vintage machinery, and, more recently, he has been finding inspiration in personal experiences and emotions.

His work has been exhibited in cities including New York, Miami, Denver, Kansas City, Buenos Aires, Bogotá, Vancouver, Ottawa, Liverpool, Valencia, Copenhagen, Seoul and Singapore.
