Artist Profile
Studio Flos
Claire Cassidy, also known as Studio Flos, is a painter and paper cutting artist.
Her practice explores contemporary folklore, often through a queer lens, drawing on mythology, folk traditions and the magic of everyday life. Populated by vibrant figures, nature and symbolic talismans, her dreamlike compositions examine strength, intimacy and belonging while holding on to curiosity and humour.
Using paper as her primary medium, Claire creates unique layered artworks that blur the line between painting, collage and sculpture. Every element is meticulously cut, painted and assembled by hand, creating works where texture and shadow become as important as the imagery itself.
Claire's practice was heavily shaped by discovering her grandmother's 80-year-old scherenschnitte, traditional paper cut artworks preserved from her childhood. Inspired by this connection to folk craft and storytelling, she has developed a distinctive visual language that reimagines paper cutting as a contemporary fine art practice.
Alongside exhibiting her work, Claire creates murals, installations and commissioned work for clients across Australia.
Born and raised in London, Claire has lived in Australia since 2012 and works from her studio in Marrickville, Sydney.
