James Carey

James Carey

James Carey is a Huntington Beach–based digital artist and graphic designer whose work sits at the intersection of 1960s psychedelia and 1980s cartoon culture. Influenced by vintage animation, underground comics, and bold poster design, Carey creates vibrant, balanced compositions filled with surreal characters, symbolic imagery, and saturated color.

Working primarily in digital illustration, he approaches each piece with a designer’s eye for structure and balance. His artwork blends playful humor with dreamlike intensity, often layering cosmic motifs, expressive faces, and unexpected visual narratives into highly detailed poster-ready compositions. Carey’s goal is simple: to create art that feels alive, immersive, and unmistakably its own.
