Maria Barrera

Maria Barrera

Maria is a graphic artist, illustrator, and creative director born and based in Valencia, Spain. Her practice moves between illustration, graphic design, and visual research, understanding imagery as a tool for building narratives, conveying emotions, and encouraging reflection.

Graduated in Fine Arts from the Universitat Politècnica de València, her work combines a contemporary artistic sensibility with influences drawn from editorial graphics, retro visual culture, and symbolism. Through colour, warmth, and vibrant compositions, she develops a visual language that oscillates between the intimate, the dreamlike, and the everyday.

Memory, lived experience, and shared emotions play a central role in her personal work. Her images often emerge from symbols, gestures, and seemingly simple scenes that conceal deeper readings connected to identity, human relationships, and the emotional perception of reality.

She currently combines her professional practice with the development of a PhD, exploring new ways of connecting critical thinking, creation, and visual storytelling.
