About the Artist
Rikki Hewitt
Rikki Hewitt is an artist and printmaker based in Cardiff, UK. His work explores the potential of abstract image-making, referencing colour field abstraction and adopting elements of European folk art.
A keen sketchbook keeper, he stockpiles drawings of symbols, icons, and geometry that reflect his environment, the natural world and urban architecture. His work explores the visual language of his surroundings by reimagining and reconfiguring these spaces through the lens of abstraction.
Then, he embarks on a print process rooted in collage-based experimentation – incorporating painting, drawing, screen printing and collage – allowing an intuitive approach to image-making. He allows shapes to be overlapped, cut out, or erased in an impromptu tug-of-war between addition and subtraction. The results are full of energy, rich in pattern and maintain a visual history of experimentation.
