How to plan a gallery wall in five steps
- Choose your art. Browse prints by style, theme, colour, mood, artist or orientation, and tap any piece to add it to your wall.
- Pick sizes and frames. Set the size and frame for each print, so everything on screen matches what you'd hang.
- Arrange the layout. Drag the frames into place, or use Auto Assemble to lay them out for you as a starting point.
- Check it in your room. Switch room backgrounds, or use See It In Your Space to view the wall on your own wall through your phone's camera.
- Save, share or order. Save your design, share it, or add the whole wall to your cart. Prints arrive framed and ready to hang.
Gallery wall layout ideas to try
- Grid: identical frames in rows with even gaps. Six A3 frames in two rows of three with 6 cm gaps come out at about 123 x 104 cm, ideal above a three-seater sofa.
- Row: three or four frames in a line with their centres level. Great above a sideboard or bed.
- Salon: one larger anchor piece with smaller frames around it, keeping the gaps even and the outer edge roughly straight.
Above furniture, aim for the whole group to be about two-thirds the width of the piece below it. There are more layouts, with measurements, in our gallery wall ideas guide, and fixings and wall types in how to hang a picture. Prefer a ready-made combination? Browse our gallery wall sets.
Gallery wall planning FAQs
Is the Gallery Wall Designer free to use?
Yes. Planning a wall costs nothing. You only pay for the framed prints if you decide to order them.
Can I use the Gallery Wall Designer on my phone?
It works best on a desktop or laptop, where the wall and the artworks fit side by side. On a phone, turn it to landscape.
Can I see my gallery wall in my own room?
Yes. Use See It In Your Space to view your design on your own wall through your phone's camera, on supported devices. You can also switch between room backgrounds in the designer.
How do I buy the gallery wall I've designed?
When you're happy with the layout, add it to your cart from the designer. Every print arrives framed and ready to hang.
Can I save my design and come back to it?
Yes. Use Save and share to keep your design or send it to someone for a second opinion, and open it again from My designs.
How far apart should the frames be?
Keep even gaps of about 5 to 8 cm, and hang the centre of the whole group at about 145 to 150 cm from the floor, or 20 to 30 cm above a sofa or sideboard.
Ready to plan your wall?
